Twitter Still Matters for Businesses
Do
you ever just wish one social platform would reign supreme so you could let go
of others and focus your social efforts?
At the beginning of 2016 there was a lot of
chatter about “The End of Twitter” and for a while there it looked like
Instagram and Facebook were getting us closer to being able to let go of
another big platform. For better or worse, however, we’re here to say that
small businesses still cannot ignore Twitter.
Here's
why.
1. The user base
The fact of the matter is Twitter still has a
user base of 313 million monthly active users and a small
business (or any business for that matter) really can’t afford to ignore that
potential. It’s a great place to reach potential customers and audiences,
whether you’re selling a product, idea, or service. But do remember that your
content needs to be targeted to the platform and the audience on it.
Connect with your customers
Twitter
is especially powerful for customer service purposes and feedback for your
brand (hello nearly instant responses). It’s easy to hop on Twitter and
quickly get a sense of the perception of a brand, product, service, etc., not
to mention, the polls on Twitter are a handy tool for quick feedback.
If
social media platforms were classified as events, Twitter would be the cocktail
party of social media. People can quickly voice their opinions with your brand
and you can immediately take care of the situation – good or bad – by publicly,
and visibly, interacting with the customer and immediately humanizing your
brand.
2.
Position your brand
Twitter
is an excellent way to position your brand as an industry thought leader
and expert, and it's an especially a great way to find out who existing thought
leaders are and start contributing to that conversation to get noticed.
For obvious reasons, being considered a
thought leader and expert in your industry can do incredible things for your
following, and ultimately, sales (blogs are also great for this).
You have to do very little work
Once
you grow your Twitter following, marketing on Twitter becomes exponentially
easier.
Create a quality short message, add a nice
image or graphic, and then your followers share that message for you. They are
literally marketing for you and that is not something you see as readily done
on Facebook or Instagram. Not only are retweets more prevalent than shares on Facebook, these retweets are reaching a wider, more
varied audience due to the tendency for people to follow strangers, rather than
friends and family.
This
can be invaluable for growing your brand awareness, increasing sales,
and way more.
It can be a goldmine of data
Used properly, Twitter can offer you an
incredible amount of data that can seriously impact your
decisions when it comes to your bottom line for social and your ultimate
business goals. More data? Fewer problems.
Okay,
well at least the more data there is, the fewer questions are left
unanswered.
Happy
Tweeting.
